The skid — the steel base frame that carries your pump, driver, fuel tank and controller — is the least glamorous part of a fire pump set, and often the first to fail. Why Skid Condition Matters
The skid maintains the precise alignment between pump and driver. A corroded, flexing or broken frame leads to coupling misalignment, vibration, bearing and seal failures, and cracked pipework connections. A pump set that “technically runs” on a failed skid is a set that is quietly destroying itself — and it will not pass scrutiny at its five-yearly AS 1851 inspection.
Replacement Without Replacing Everything
A full packaged pump set replacement is not always necessary. Where the pump, driver and controller are in good condition, Melfire can fabricate and install a new base frame, transfer the equipment, re-align the drive train and re-connect pipework and wiring. Where the whole set is at end of life, we supply and install complete new AS 2941 pump sets. Either way, we design for the future: frames that can be modified, components that can be sourced, and layouts that can actually be maintained.
