Has Honeywell Gone Out of Business?

What we Know About BC2000

Has Honeywell gone out of business? It’s a question some might ask given recent challenges in sourcing replacement parts. Recently, we received an exciting inquiry asking MFE to quote for a full fire panel replacement. It turns out the previous fire contractor struggled to find two replacement thermal detectors for a BC-200 fire panel.

Interestingly, the BC-200, much like the advanced Notifier AFP-2800 sold by Honeywell’s ADI distribution business, operates on the system sensor protocol. Remarkably, we’ve serviced and sold countless panels of this type without ever needing replacement detectors for them. Incredible, isn’t it?

What the customer wants

The customer reassured me that the committee is enthusiastic about replacing the panel, which is excellent to hear. Understanding the strict guidelines in Victoria is crucial. Ensure proper documentation exists before replacing any essential service. Necessary documents include drawings, building permits, and input from a registered domestic builder for apartment work. We will discuss the Building Act in a future blog.

What can we do?

  • I called Honeywell on 1800 246 345, and spoke to a technical support they put me onto FireX, the Honeywell distributor.
  • FireX – After 5 minutes, I took my credit card number and have posted me two new detectors.

I will now head to site, at NO COST to a building, which we don’t maintain – And replace the two faulty detectors at no cost to the OC. I dislike the idea of a committee spending $30,000 for a $180 solution.

Reach out if you’re having technical problems. We can most likely help with Google, a mobile phone and some will power!
